People in Jordan still don’t know what happens inside a CrossFit gym.  They see videos and photos of some impressive things- but wonder what really goes on inside there?  We will explain exactly what to expect inside your Crescent training session.

You now what to expect when you walk in the old gyms- where they have spinning classes for your cardio.  They have machines to supposedly build your muscle.  They have yoga classes for your flexibility.  And the classes and coaches change every month.

We have a structure to our one hour classes, but we’re aiming in each and every class to work on your ENTIRE fitness.  We define fitness as an important combination of endurance and strength and flexibility and agility and power…. We want them all and we include elements of them all in our training sessions.

In and Out of our Class in One Hour

You will know exactly when your training session will start and end.  At our gym we offer a hybrid membership of both personal training 1-1 sessions as well as group class training sessions.  Usually, our classes and personal training sessions last 1 hour.  You will want to arrive a few minutes before the session starts so you can change into the right clothes and put your things safely away.  At a regular gym with the machines and treadmills, you enter and don’t ever know when you should stop and it often takes 1.5 to 2 hours before you sort of feel done and wander back to your car.

Coach With You the Entire Class

The coach will gather you at the start of the class or training session and talk you through what to expect for the day.  There is a clear program that you can confidently follow of what exercises to learn, how much weight to use, and how many repetitions you will do.  Your coach will lead you and be with you the entire hour.

Warm Up Together

You will start with a specific warm up that will prepare your entire body for the training session.  This will be a chance to start practicing certain basic body control movements.  You could jump rope, or row, or many other things.  The coach will direct this time and it will likely last 5-10 minutes.

New Skill or Build Strength

After your warmup, your next 15-20 minutes could be one of two things.  Sometimes you will work on building strength.  Your coach will teach you the exercise- something like a back squat, or deadlift- and he will control the amount of weight you will lift, how many repetitions, and how many sets.  This will be according to your skill level and experience.

Other times you will spend this time just working on learning and perfecting a skill.  You could work on an Olympic Weightlifting movement like a clean and jerk, or snatch.  Or perhaps learning how to climb a rope, or touch your toes to a bar.

High Intensity Workout for Your Fitness Level

We then transition into a High Intensity Interval Training workout.  There’s no time for water breaks when we start this!  We will make sure you know the movements, the right weight to use, and the right number of repetitions.  Then we all go to work as fast as we can while keeping great technique. The coach is watching you the entire time to correct your movements, change the weights if needed, and help you push hard until the end.  Long gone is the 45 minute walking sessions on the treadmills!  Now its about speed, strength, endurance and technique all wrapped together!

Light Stretch and Cool Down

Then its time to focus on our flexibility, let our heart rate come down- and talk about what we learned.  Often times we talk about nutrition principles that are important for every day life during this time.

During the entire hour, your coaches are focused on helping you move better, keeping you motivated through the workout, making sure you’re safe, and helping you get the best out of your day.  You’ll get to meet the people in your class and work together even as a team much of the time.  You’ll be inspired and inspire others.
